The sport's innocence has been tainted.
We search for understanding.
We beg for justice.
Our hearts hurt.
But, we won't be shaken.
Never again will we stand cheering fellow runners on without having a thread of apprehension about that trash can beside us.
Never will we train for our next race without a note of concern for our family members who will be there to cheer us on.
Never again will we tie our shoes without a thought for Marathon Monday 2013.
But, we won't be shaken.
Someone intended fear.
Someone planned harm.
Someone caused horror.
But, we won't be shaken.
Our sport is one of resilience.
Our sport is one of heart.
Our sport represents THE human spirit.
Our sport won't be shaken.
Just as we know that one bad run doesn't mean the whole plan is shot,
Yesterday's act doesn't mean our sport is ruined.
It will show the rest of the world why we love the running community.
It will demonstrate the very reason we love marathoning:
Resilience,
Discipline,
Endurance,
Community,
Determination,
Perseverance.
Today runners everywhere are donning on their race shirt and perhaps a race bib from Run Junkees and running in honor and memory of the Boston Marathon.
Wounds heal.
We won't be shaken.
