With the recent passing of my mom, as I am sure is normal, I have had some major reflection time.
I have been surprised to realize the things that are monumental moments and impacts in my life. I am seeing that things I once took for granted are now major building blocks in who I am today.
Most surprising, is a 130 year old building.
About 5 years ago, my parents moved out of my childhood home. That was the home I learned so much about life, family, and, my Jesus. As I've reflected over the beautiful memories that have come flooding in, I am in a humbling awe to realize how many of those moments are involving Woodrow Avenue. I remember my mom saying when we moved in that house 30 years ago, she wanted a home whose walls could tell stories of birthdays, weddings and funerals. And now, oh, the stories those walls could tell!
In two weeks we are going back to Ohio to have her celebration service in the town that she was such an amazing part of her life, and, mine. While I am excited to see so many people whom she touched, I am most drawn the House That Built Me.
I'm looking forward to walking that yard, stepping on the porch where so many souls were changed; touching that door I walked through to be greeted by a woman who loved her family with her every fiber; and standing under the big old Oak that held the rickety swing of precious talks ~ the one on the front of Unto All Generations III;
While I am sure there will be tears shed, I can't wait to pray on those grounds and thank them for helping build a foundation for so many lives that are changing the world for Him. I only hope that I can give that sacred place justice as I create the pages to tell its story.
